Last Rectangle
Last Rectangle was created for Remake Jam, where the idea was to recreate the first game you made, which for me was Last Man (Rectangle?) which I made for GGJ 2015. The game itself is very simple, but I like the idea of remaking the same game every few years to show off the changes I have come through as a creator.
To show off 2 years of experience I had since then in I decided to add a dimention, making it 3D, which allowed me to play with lighting, something I rarely do since I mostly create 2D games. Since in the original I had issues with moving the main character between scenes I decided that to make it seem more natural the whole game world will be in one scene, and the buildings that the Last Rectangle enters will open up for the camera. Another thing I decided to do is create almost all of the assets - everything apart from rocks and trees were created by me in VoxelMagica, since the original had pixel art. The main track that You hear throughout the game was also created by me with the use of Ableton Live. I wanted the music to tell the player how far into the game they were, as well as creating an unnerving atmosphere in this demolished world as the player goes deeper in search of the items to get themselves some tea. |
